Swallows of Helston is a gymnastic club in Cornwall with approximately 350 members, ranging from around 3 years old to adults. A broad range of classes are run weekly, incorporating all ages, at recreational, display and competitive levels.

The Swallows gymnasts have once again been working hard and were recently competing at the South West School’s Finals of the Floor and Vault competition in Taunton.
The Under 19 Girl’s Team were up against some very strong opposition, with gymnasts from Ivybridge all top quality gymnasts from the Devon Gymnastic Clubs. The Girl’s team comprising of Libby Rescorla, Kea Wheat, Dana Wheat, Jessica Woods and Tiegan Wheat finished in overall 3rd place with a top 10 ranking by Libby in the individual girls competition.
In the Mixed Under 14 Team, the college had five gymnasts taking part, and for both Shannon, Matt and Phoebe (Yr 7) their first experience at this event. Cameron and Matt both made excellent individual performances taking individual 1st and second places and the team managed the overall top ranking with a fantastic 112.00 over Ivybridge, last year’s National champions at this level.
The young mixed team will now travel with their coaches Ainsti Hickman-Jones, and Choreographer Pat Hickman to the National Finals to be held in Stoke On Trent on Sunday 12 May 2014.
Well done to all our gymnasts and good luck to those representing Helston Commuity College in May.

A big well done to all our gymnasts that competed the weekend 16 March at the Level 6 Apparatus competition in Callywith, Bodmin. In the 8 yrs age group results were as follows: Scarlett Thompson – Vault and Beam – Gold, Bars – Silver and overall Silver medallist. Jasmine Forwood – =Gold medal on Vault with top 6 placings on all other apparatus and overall 5th place. Morwenna Holbrook – Bronze medallist on Floor and top 6 placings on both Beam and overall. Olivia Morris – 3rd place on Vault and 8th place overall
In the 9 years age group – Lilia Rowe Silver medallist on Vault and overall. With 4th place on Beam. Stella Laws – Gold medallist on Bars with 3rd overall. Jessica Caves – Silver medals on both Beam and Bars and a 5th place overall. Holly Kemp – Bronze medal on Beam and finishing in 7th place individually.
Well done also to Alaia Wilson (14th/21), Sophie McCartney (15th/21) with a top 6 ranking on Bars, and Zena Jackson (20th/21) in the same age group.
In the 10 years competition – Kaitlyn Standing – Bronze medals on both Vault and Beam, Silver on Floor. Overall 4th place. Josie Martin – Silver medal on Vault and Bronze on the Floor. Amy Manley – A consistent competition narrowly missing medals on the apparatus, but a top 6 placing overall.
11 years – Champion – Claudia Kitchen with Gold medals on Vault, Bars and Beam. 4th place on Floor.
A total of 23 medals for our gymnasts taking part. Brilliant results.

Congratulations to all the Club’s gymnasts who competed in a huge South West Springboard Apparatus on the 9th March.
9/10 years – 64 competitors entered in the event
Katie Mayall – 7th place overall with 5th position on Beam just 0.06 off Bronze and 9th on Bars, just 0.30 off Bronze (so a very close competition)
Zara Mitchell – 11th place overall with 6th place on Beam just 0.20 off Bronze
Well done to Zoe Hopkins overall 22nd, Yuki Cornish 27th, Madison Stanfield 36th, Charlotte Fidler 49th, Ashleigh Shovel 52nd and Kaitlyn Standing 57th
11/12 years – 60 competitors entered in the event
Dana Littlejohns – 7th place overall with 1st on Floor.
Autumn-Star Mills – 9th place overall with 6th place on Floor just 0.12 off Bronze and 10th place on Beam, just 0.40 off Bronze
Cara Jackson overall 53rd and Shannon Standing 58th
Ladies – 16 competitors entered
Dana Wheat – 10th place overall with 7th on Beam
Swallows Team comprising of Zara Mitchell, Dana Littlejons and Dana Wheat were the highest rank Cornish Club in 8th place overall. Well done to all our gymnasts who competed at the event. A great experience for you all.
