In the level 4, 9 years competition the club had two gymnasts taking part, in age. The competition was very tough with some excellent gymnasts in the group.  Phoebe Jenkin made a number of errors during the competition, but still made a top ten ranking.  Team mate Megan Morris had a fantastic day winning the silver from her Beam exercise and bronze on bars.  Megan was placed overall 3rd at the end of a great day.  Both Phoebe and Megan were the only two gymnasts to have an acrobatic series on the beam which was a fantastic achievement.

With 10 year old Maea Morgan also finding the nerves too difficult to control on the beam with a number of errors. On this occasion, Maea was placed 21st. Maea's best placing was for her floor routine with 6th position.

12 year old Libby Rescorla was the clubs only gymnast in the level 3, 11/12 years, Libby has a super start to her competition with a clean beam routine and few technical deductions. From here, Libby went from strength to strength gaining a silver on beam and for her vault. Libby was rewarded with the overall bronze medal after a great day for her.

In the level 3, 14+ years event, Shauna Mitchell continued with some very pleasing performances. Shauna gained silver medal on vault as well as being ranked 5th in the overall competition. This was a superb achievement for Shauna and the end to a great weekend for the club.

Swallows Gymnastics Make The Grade!!

The Girl's South West Club Grades were held on Sunday 4th December at Plymouth Swallows Gymnastics Club.

Competing for their Clubs were gymnasts taking Grades 14, 13 and 12 hoping to achieve a Pass at their relevant grade.

Competing at Grade 14, the Swallows of Helston entered 3 young gymnasts all hoping to perform to the highest level. The girls had to perform set elements as laid down by British Gymnastics. 7 year olds, Zara Mitchell and Isabelle Morgan were competing for the first time outside of their Club. Both gymnasts handled the pressure extremely well and with no major errors in their work both achieved a pass with Distinction for their efforts. 8 Year old, Emerald Smith performed consistently and with a total score of 58.95 also gained a Distinction. Emerald was the highest ranked gymnast form the Club in overall 11th place out of 53 gymnasts, a pleasing result.

Competing at Grade 13, the Club saw Megan Morris, Harly Beale and Mackenzie Martin take to the podium. Megan had major changes to make to their routines following her recent success in the South West Alpha Factor, but she handled these changes extremely well. Megan was top scorer at Grade 13 throughout the entire competition with a fantastic total of 61.00. All three gymnasts passed their Grade with Distinction after three solid performances.

9 year olds, Jessica Hubbard and Phoebe Jenkin were the Club’s representatives at Grade 12. Both girls made some well executed routines throughout the competition and Phoebe topped the Floor in gaining top spot. At the end of the event, and after an extremely long day for all involved, both girls were awarded a Distinction, with Phoebe taking 2nd place overall.

A pleasing end to a busy period for all the gymnasts and staff at the Club. Head coach, Donna Jenkin said, we are all extremely proud of all the gymnasts for their continued dedication and commitment to their training. The girls did themselves proud with some near perfect performances, particularly on the Vault and Range & Conditioning set exercise. We are now looking forward to a bit of a rest leading up to the Christmas period, but back to hard training again early in the New Year.  Well done to all the coaches who put a lot of effort into ensuring the girls were in peak condition for the Grades competition.
