Swallows Annual Presentation - Gymnastic Awards for 2005

Swallows Presenation 05
The Club awards recognises the outstanding achievements of the gymnasts, coaches & volunteers for the year 2005
All awards are for competitions that were held in 2005, however, not all our awards are for competition winners.  The club also wants to recognise and reward gymnasts who may not have won at a competition; however, they may have put a lot of effort and commitment into their training on a weekly basis.

The club also acknowledges that without its volunteers none of the above would be possible and two volunteers received the public recognition that they deserve.

As Swallows begins its 30th anniversary year, Roland and Muriel Holton were asked to present the awards.  ‘Chiefie’ and Muriel were the founders of the Swallows of Helston back in 1976 and are still involved with the sport through the South West Gymnastics Association.
The girls’ results are taken from the following competitions:

NOVICE V&A AND NOVICE APPARATUS;
INTERMEDIATE V&A AND INTERMEDIATE APPARATUS
SOUTH WEST ALPHA FACTOR GRAND FINAL
SOUTH WEST AGE GROUPS AND CHALLENGE CUP
CLUB GRADES 6, 5 AND 4
The boys’ results are taken from the following competitions:
NOVICE V&A
NOVICE & INTERMEDIATE APPARATUS
COUNTY & INTERMEDIATE FLOOR & VAULT

The endeavour awards for both boys and girls are presented to gymnasts who have shown both commitment and dedication to their training.  The recipients of these awards have been nominated by the coaches.
Boy’s winner.  This award went to someone who rarely misses a session, is full of enthusiasm for his training and always keen to please his coaches.  In addition to this, has become more confident and is a true asset to the club and a credit to his family.
THE BOYS ENDEAVOUR CUP
CHRISTOPHER THOMAS
This year we had two awards for the girls for endeavour – firstly the Norman Wilshire shield for a junior gymnast and the Clive Thomas shield for a Senior gymnast
In the junior category this winner was a young lady who has been attending the gym for a number of years and has already worked her away up from recreational to intermediate level.  This gymnast is not known for missing sessions, and her dedication and enthusiasm is clearly apparent to the coaches.  We hope that she continues to strive for perfection in her gymnastics and achieves greater heights.
The Norman Wiltshire shield for girls endeavour was presented to
AMY GREYGOOSE
The Senior award went to a gymnast who became a member of the Swallows at the age of 12 and travels a number of miles to her training sessions each week.  During her time with the swallows she has won many county titles and still competes regularly for the club inside and outside the county.  This gymnasts commitment and dedication are apparent and she now makes the journey to and from the gym in her own car.
THE CLIVE THOMAS SHIELD FOR ENDEAVOUR GOES TO
STEPHANIE TERRY

Award for the most improved boy and girl within the club.  This award is decided by the coaches who agonised over their nominations for both of these categories.  As a club we are very fortunate to have so many talented youngsters who are always striving to improve upon their personal achievements.  However, from the shortlist prepared by the coaches the two winners clearly had the edge over all others.
The first winner was a boy who, as a result of his positive attitude towards his training, was moved from a recreational group to a development group during 2005.  In November he competed for the first time at the novice competition where he performed with great maturity and confidence
Congratulations went to:-
MOST IMPROVED BOY         TYLER RICHARDSON
The most improved girl award went to a young gymnast who began her training within the pre-school sessions and has now joined the development group attending the gym twice a week.   She has natural ability and positive focus for the sport, and we certainly hope that with her determined attitude she qualifies later this year to represent the Swallows at the Novice Floor and Vault competition.
THE MOST IMPROVED GIRL         LIBBY RESCORLA
These final two awards were presented to two people who have shown outstanding loyalty and commitment to the club over a long period of time.
This gymnast has been a valued member of the Swallows of Helston Gymnastics Club, both as a gymnast and more recently, as a well respected coach.
Her enthusiasm and commitment was very quickly noticed as soon as she began her volunteer coaching 1 year ago.  She has maintained this commitment to our club, frequently spending more hours in the gym, either coaching or generally ‘gyming’ than many of the paid staff, taking great pride in her work.
Her curiosity and drive for self-improvement is yet another quality, which will make her a great asset to what ever career or avenue she follows in the future.
SENIOR GYMNAST WHO HAS SHOWN DEDICATION TO THE CLUB
GEMMA WILSON
This year’s “Volunteer of the year” has been a valued member of the coaching team for a number of years - Carrie Bradburn.  She has been involved in preparing and training gymnasts for novice competition.  She always succeeds in her coaching to ensure that the Club gains the team medal in competitions.   Carrie has also been involved in the past, with the club’s board of trustees and kindly sponsored the club’s coaching team with sweatshirts sporting her Dental Practice Name & Logo.  However, due to recent job commitments has had to relinquish her responsibilities as a coach much to the gymnasts and coaching staff’s disappointment, we hope in due course she will return.
THE VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR    CARRIE BRADBURN
