| Schools & Key Step Programme
This programme is designed to deliver the National Curriculum to children of Primary School age. Within a 20 mile radius of Helston there are over 40 primary schools with many of them being situated in rural areas, with only 2 or 3 teachers to deliver the full curriculum. Many of theses schools do not have adequate space or expertise to deliver the sport and physical education as set out in the National Curriculum.
With our team of coaches we go out to schools with a programme which delivers a planned gymnastic experience that is supported by a written scheme of work suitable for Ofsted. We offer a five week programme during which time they are able to benefit from the use of specialised equipment under the guidance of qualified coaches. In the final session the pupils can come to the gym, we can accommodate 60 children in these sessions, which is sometimes the whole school!
As transport costs can be high this is a very cost effective solution for local schools. It also fits well within the current new Planning, Preparation & Assessment time (PPA) for teacher providing a well structured & planned experience for the pupils & time for the classroom teacher to do their PPA.
Recently the new Key Steps programme introduced by the local School Sports Co-ordinator (SSCo) to 16 primary schools culminated in a Key Steps festival at the Swallows gym, great gymnastic fun was had by one & all.
For planning purposes there is a need to book these sessions a term in advance, contact the Head Coach Donna Thomas or Swallows Administrator on 01326 574224. As for one of the new Schools brochure.
